Miss Carla started dancing at the age of five and started teaching in 2001, under Miss Pamela Grant-Ponikau and  gained her Associate and Member licenses in BATD in Ballet in the years 2003 and 2010, respectively. She has trained in the New Glasgow, Halifax, Antigonish, and Montreal areas in Ballet, Acro, Latin Dancing, Lyrical and Jazz styles.

She taught for five years in Antigonish at the Maureen Fraser School of Dance, where her love for teaching really blossomed.  Her years there are filled with wonderful and fond memories of all the people she met.

After completing her undergraduate studies at St. Francis Xavier University, she moved back to New Glasgow and opened Miss Carla's Dance in 2009.

"I truly have found my passion for life, in the form of teaching and shaping young dancers, and will always tries to instill a love of dance in anyone I teach.

Miss Jillian is the Hip Hop and Tap instructor for Miss Carla’s Dance. Her passion for dance developed at the age of 3 when she began classes with MacDonald Dance Academy/D&R Dance Ltd in North Sydney, Nova Scotia, training in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Contemporary/Lyrical, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop and Modern.

In 2009, Jillian became an assistant instructor with D&R Dance Ltd., and her passion for teaching flourished.  While completing her Bachelor of Business Administration at St. Francis Xavier University, Jillian became a part of the Xtreme Dance Society, where she taught contemporary and tap classes for students on campus. Upon moving to New Glasgow to begin work with Sobeys, she was overjoyed when she found that Miss Carla’s Dance was looking for an instructor in one of her favorite styles.

Miss Jillian strives to instill her passion for dance and performing in her students, and believes that no one should miss a chance to dance, no matter their age or ability. She wouldn’t be the same person she is today without dance, and is so glad to have found another dance family in her new home.
